Thater 3 Band 49125/1 Plexi in Silvertip

A gorgeous and ergonomic handle from Thater. The Plexi is quite nice. Construction wise, only the glue bump is a flaw. The handle is gorgeous. The hair is very soft. It is enhanced like Shavemac’s silvertip. However, the quality of Thater hair is better, so the hairs feel more luxurious than Shavemac silvertip. Not much more to say than that.

Morris & Forndran Blue L7 in Silvertip

Called the L7 handle by people on the forums, this handle is a copy of the M7 handle by Simpson. Well, it’s copied for good reason. Because it is extremely comfortable to hold and is quite enjoyable to use. While there are some doubts as to where the true bulk of the manufacturing is done, it is a well constructed brush. Except for the glue bump which irks me terribly. It isn’t hard to get the handle factory to drill the hole 5 mm deeper Lee Sabini. You just have to tell them to do it…. Anyway, glue bump aside, there is nothing wrong with this brush. Maybe it’s too small, but that’s not really a flaw.

The handle is gorgeous and the hair is super soft. It lathers up really easy and is basically a champ all around. It’s a good brush.

Simpsons Duke 2 Super Badger Two Band

Simpsons 2 band hair wasn’t always great. In fact, it was down right bad in the not too distant past. But then, they picked up in quality and made this fine specimen of a brush. Truly gel-like tips, this 2 band hair is a winner. Simpson is known for their quality handles and this one does not disappoint. In fact, nothing at all is disappointing about this brush except the price and the size. And the size is my personal preference.

Knot: 23mm

Loft: 48mm

Thater 4125/1 Black Finest 2-Band Silvertip Bulb Shaving Brush, 24mm

Thater 2 Band is highly regarded; and for good reason. Soft tips with great backbone. Softer than SOC 2 band, but not as soft as silvertip and not quite gel-like in this author’s opinion. This brush is well constructed. The octagonal handle is very comfortable to hold. My only complaint is the glue bump is noticeable.

Bristle Knot: 24mm
Bristle Height: 50mm
Total Height: 95mm

Shavemac 167-2B D01 2 Band in 20mm Knot Fan Shape

This is a small example from Shavemac. Well constructed, except for the quite noticeable glue bump. The D01 2 band hair is pretty similar in performance to Manchurian, but not as soft. It has more prickle & scratch.

Knot – 20mm

Loft – 42mm

Brush of the Day 11/23/12

Today I used a custom brush. The handle was turned by Bob Quinn from Elite Razor. The knot is a WSP Super Silvertip (High Mountain White). It was like a wall of luxurious badger. That’s what a Chubby 1 is supposed to feel like! Take that floppy Plisson 16s!
